Catholic Life

'We are all unique yet share the same heart.'

Our School Ethos

Our school tries to create an atmosphere of freedom and love, where children can experience dignity as they develop towards Christian maturity. We are concerned with the development of the whole child – spiritual, physical, social, emotional and intellectual. We recognise the need to build on each child’s individual experiences and the school’s expectations are determined in light of these factors.

Our school shares in the rich heritage of the traditional prayers of the Church. We also try to encourage children to pray with openness and spontaneity at appropriate times in appropriate settings in order to reflect upon and deepen their understanding of each other and of God.

The school seeks to enable children of all abilities, irrespective of gender, class, cultural background and ethnic origin, to realise their full potential through the development of lively, enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally, the capacity for creativity and enterprise, a facility in physical skills and the discipline and self – confidence necessary to apply these qualities effectively.

Catholic Social Teaching

The Catholic Church has seven principles of social teaching that we share with our children through all that we do, including the curriculum, special events and activity as well as ordinary actions in school.

Catholic Social Teaching underpins the essence of our daily school life. As members of the Catholic Church, we are all called upon to preserve the dignity of all human beings, to care for creation, and to reach out to our sisters and brothers in need. Pope Francis emphasises that it is our duty to work together to bring about a more just and peaceful world: to put love into action.

'In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’' (Acts 20:35)

Hampers of Christmas Kindness - December 2024

Our wonderful Faith Ambassadors led a project to support local families this Christmas time who need support.

Each class created a wonderful hamper filled with Christmas treats to share with Armthorpe Food Support, who will give out 50-55 hampers to local families this Christmas.

CAFOD Family Fast Day - October 2024
Our school community were asked to dress brightly for CAFOD Family Fast day this year. We set ourselves an ambitious target of £300 to raise money to provide a mobile health team in a community who really need it. Children wore bright clothes and the staff team had a 'soup lunch' together.

Remembrance Day - November 2024

On Monday 11th November, we remembered the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.

The whole school observed two minutes silence at 11:00am and throughout the day, each class look time to walk the labyrinth to reflect and remember.

We also remembered the lives of loved ones who have died.

The children showed great respect and reverence.
